Marigold

When you give birth to your 10th child (as I did this spring), you might need to adjust some of the ways you invest time and money. For us, we landed on taking a break from the glories of owning a milk cow. Ours was the first home of this lady cow! She had her first calf with us and together we entered the school of hand milking for a homestead. She's the dearest thing and will make a great family milk cow for many years.

Please read below about Marigold. If she's for you, use our contact page to start a conversation about her!

*Marigold is a 5 year old MIDSIZE Jersey cow. "Midsize" translates into "Managable for a family." Want to experience the harmonious ratio of work-input to enjoyment and delight? Then this size cow is what you're looking for.

*Hand-milker

*Produces 2 gallons/day with 1x/day milking

*Grass-only (never been grained so she digests & produces like nature intended)

*Currently in milk (freshened 12/25) and open (ready to breed to the bull of your choice between now and next spring).

*A2 status is unknown - we never had her tested because our family does not have special sensitivities.

*As she is our only cow and came from a closed herd, we have opted out of disease testing, vaccinations, etc. We rotate her pasture to manage possible parasite exposure and give her 24/7 access to sunshine, grass, minerals, and fresh water. We manage veterinary issues if they arise. Over the last 4 years since we've owned her, nothing has arisen. :)

*Trained to everything - halter, electric fence (or one strand of tape), stands to be milked and has NEVER KICKED!

*We don't put her in a stanchion, we just hook her to a post and she stands.

*Marigold has done calf-sharing, she's a great mom and makes enough for both us and a calf at her side. She's happy to enjoy the pasture alone, and has also done great with a calf, steer or bull in her company.

*We've both AI'd her and bred her to a live bull: She's had a heifer calf (5/22), a bull calf (8/23), and twin heifers (12/25).

*Makes DELICIOUS milk, from which I make yogurt, ice cream, butter, and cheeses.

*Milking 3/4 teats  (We lost one to mastitis, totally our fault, we were rookies.)

*Is she a dream cow? Yes. Especially if this will be your first cow and you want milk NOW.

*Will hold her until Labor Day weekend with a $350 deposit (PayPal), which will go toward her purchase.

*She will come with her halter and lead rope.
