Very Dark Brown Jack

MDR# pending

Birth Height: 20"

Birth: August 14, 2020 in Anna, OH

Sire: Dogwood Hills Topper (30.25"Brown & White Spotted) - Symsonia, KY

Grandsire: B.J. Houston  Blue Eyed White) - Grand Island, NE

Granddam: Dogwood Hills Chocolate Swirl  (32.50" Brown & White Spotted) - Waco, TX

Grandsire: Furball Acres Jokers Wild (31.75" Very Dark Brown) - Johnston, SC

Granddam: Assphalt Acres Nicoal (34" Black) - Manilla, IN

Look at that pedigree! Kentucky, Texas, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, and Indiana are all known - in mini donkey circles - for their outstanding reputation for breeding well formed stock that can be seen in programs all over the country. This little fellow is an outstanding specimen and his form bears testimony to years of deliberate pairings. Bruno Kolbe was named in collaboration with a family who wanted him before he was born! He is a compact foal with well-defined light points and a visible cross. Like the two men he was named for (St. Maximillian Kolbe and St. Bruno), he bears the image of it with poise and resolve.

$old to a midwest Ohio farm! Farmed all their lives, and bought donkeys in their retirement!

This spitfire of a jack was born on the feast of St. James in a dewy corner of our Ohio pasture. ('Santiago' means "St. James" so he was named in honor of that Apostle). A stunning profile and straight, broad-set legs complete the package of this little donkey, whose personality matches his sire's just about as much as his looks do! He can make a gentle, line-bred herdsire or a phenomenal family pet if gelded.

Continental TEXAS BLACK GOLD

Black Jennet with Light Points

MDR# on file

Height: 29"

Birth: July 28, 2015 in Sanger, Texas

Sire:  Circle C Victory (29.75" Black) - Blackie, Alberta, Canada

Grandsire: MGF Future Link (32" Black w/ cross) - Gurley, Nebraska

          Granddam: Circle C Victoria's Secret (33.5" Black)

Dam: Designer Donkeys' Precious (31" Grey-Dun) - Cleburne, Texas

Grandsire: Cirlce C Obsession (32.5" Black w/cross) - Blackie, Alberta, Canada [WORLD CHAMPION JACK]

Granddam: LN Dee Shady Side (31.5" Grey-Dun) - Corwith, Iowa

TBG is small and gentle, trustworthy and companionable. Her alert and responsive temperament have made her easy to work with, and because of that, she's taken up a side-hustle of public appearances. In 2018, she served as a therapy animal for children who experienced the loss of a loved one. Later that summer, TBG spent several hours at our local Parish Picnic & Family Festival, where her adorableness was admired by teens, children, parents, nuns, and priests. Show potential coupled with black-as-midnight color are great assets for this young jennet.

Texas Black Gold was sold to a great breeding program in Indiana.

Papettis Eggstraordinary J.J.

Dark Red Jack

MDR# on file

Height: 30"

Birth: August 15, 2006 in Addison, Vermont

Sire: Stoney Acres Pompei (31.5" Dark Red) - Dinsbury, Alberta, Canada

Grandsire: MGF Prairie Fire (32" Red) - Gurley, Nebraska

Granddam: White Star's X'Treme Diva (31" Dark Brown) - Canada

Dam: Ass-pirin Acres Jesta Starfire (32.5" Red) - Addison, Vermont

Grandsire: Happytime Acres Firecracker Red (32.5" Red) - Lincoln, Nebraska

Granddam: Ass-pirin Acres Lil Red Jessubelle (33.5" Red) - Vergennes, Vermont

It took a full year to find J.J., who ticked all the boxes on my "ideal herd sire" wish list. I wanted a well-conformed, mild-mannered, proven male to launch our breeding program. A jack that was on the small side, thicker-boned, drafty, and with strong red genetics. Many thanks to my husband who took me on a 10 hour road trip (with an infant in tow!) to bring J.J. home. (I owe you one, Joe!)

J.J. has sired several registered foals in his career. He runs here with a harem of jennets, and is comfortable enough in his role as boss to allow foals and geldings to roam the same pasture. The ability to do that is an unusual and highly desirable quality. The very long list of famous reds in his background (The Fireman, S.S. Red Lightening, Valentino 50, and Redsonnehi, to name a few) are a huge complement to J.J.'s temperament and build. He's the entire package when it comes to a small, stocky, red jack.

J.J. went to a breeding program in Georgia.

Providence Cottage LOLEK

Bright Red Jennet

MDR# pending

Birth Height: 19.75"

Birth: May 19, 2018 in Fort Loramie, Ohio

Sire: Papetti's Eggstraordinary JJ (30" Dark Red) - Addison, VT

Grandsire: Stoney Acres Pompei (31.5" Dark Red) - Albert, Canada

Granddam: Ass-pirin Acres Jesta Starfire (32.5" Red) - Addison, Vermont

Dam: The Elms Spice Cake (32.25" Dark Red) - Mason, Ohio

Grandsire: MGF Black Knight (32.5" Black) - Gurley, Nebraska

Granddam: Rearview's Red Synnamon (32.25" Dark Red) - Yates Center, Kansas

LOLEK is the result of a strong pairing of red color genetics and famous pedigrees. I have to give a lot the credit to the hard work of so many breeders who put in years of deliberate effort to set us up for the creation of a donkey like her! A quick peak at her pedigree will show you names like The Fireman, LN Redsonnehi, MGF Black Knight, SS Red Lightening, Valentino 50, Circle C X'treme, MGF Prairie Fire, and so many more. He legs are stick straight, and her coat is smooth and fluffy, and boasts a bright red dorsal cross. Ears? Boy, does she have long ones!

Providence Cottage LOLEK is charming in every regard - from her gay trot in the paddock to her perky approach when you open the gate. She has a drafty, strong sire and an elegant, up-headed dam, both here at Providence Cottage Farm. My best guess is she'll mature at around 30-31" and will be on the small end of the Miniature Mediterranean Donkey size spectrum. She was imprinted just hours after birth, and her dam, The Elms SPICE CAKE, has an exceptional knack for socializing her foals and turning them into personable, teachable, mild-mannered donkeys. On reaching maturity, there is no doubt in my mind that she will be a strong asset to any breeding program that wants to perpetuate a strong legacy of conformation, temperament, and red color. In the meantime, she promises to deliver wonderful things as a pet or show jennet.

We named her "LOLEK" after the great Pope John Paul II, who had that nickname as a young Polish boy. She was born near his birthday, and seems to emulate his attentive, engaged, hopeful view of our modern era.

Providence Cottage LOLEK is priced to sell at weaning.

Providence Cottage Anton

34" Grey-Dun Gelding

MDR pending

Birth: March 2002

When Robert Green imported the first miniature Mediterranean donkeys in 1929, he said of them, "Miniature donkeys possess the affectionate nature of a Newfoundland, the resignation of a cow, the durability of a mule, the courage of a tiger, and an intellectual capability only slightly inferior to man's." I have found all of that to ring true for our very own Anton. Anton is a pet extraordinaire and was the perfect fit for our young hobby family! Everything good about the donkey can be found in him. He brays quizzically when you come outside, hoping you'll brush him, feed him, or take him out for walk in the woods. Saddle him up and he'll gladly take our toddler on a ride. Beggars' Night? He's there to pass out candy. If I had to compare his temperament to that of a human, I'd say he was much like a 65-year old grandpa: dependable, well-mannered, wise, and even-keeled because of his years, and possessing the joie de vivre that bubbles up from the heart of a man with his grandkids. Because donkeys are herd-bound and highly social, we're glad to have him teaching manners to the rest of the donkeys. Ask anyone who pays us a visit, "Who's your favorite donkey here?" and they'll say, "Anton!"

Genevieve

This sweet, pink, 10 year old jennet was sold in April 2016. She came from untraced lineage, and so, despite her beauty, form, and strength, we decided to let her go home with budding donkey enthusiasts from Chillicothe, OH. Genevieve was their first of now several pet mini donkeys!

Rembrandt

After being gelded, trained to lead, stand for the farrier, this young donkey found a new forever home in October 2016. Because of his warm, calm, and interested personality, he was chosen as a great fit for Downsize Farm in Woodstock, OH. There, he'll help provide purpose and companionship for disabled adults.
